# Compare models

> Send one prompt to two or three models, watch them answer side by side, and keep the best answer.

## Overview

Compare mode runs the same prompt on several models at once so you can judge quality, speed and cost before you commit to one.

## Run a comparison

    Click the compare icon next to the model selector, or go to `/compare`.

  <Step title="Pick models">
    Choose two or three models with **Add model**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Send your prompt">
    Type your prompt and click **Compare**. The answers stream in side by side.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Keep the best answer">
    Click **Use this answer** on the one you like. It's saved as a new chat with that model, and you can keep going from there.

Each answer shows timing and size details: time to first token, total time and input/output tokens.

## Things to know

* Compare is **text only**: tools, connectors and attachments are turned off.
* Answers you don't keep are not saved.
* Only the final answer is saved. A model's reasoning isn't kept.
* You need at least two enabled models. If only one is available, ask an admin to enable more models or add another provider key.
