# Models

> Choose which AI model answers, and understand where models come from.

## Choose a model

Click the model name next to the message box to open the model selector. Models are grouped by provider. The model you pick answers your next message, and you can switch at any point in a conversation. Earlier messages stay in the thread, so the new model sees the full history.

<Info>
  The list only shows models your organization has enabled. If a model you need is missing, ask an admin to add the provider's key or enable the model in **Admin → Models**.
</Info>

## Where models come from

Wirebase connects to AI providers with API keys your organization adds. Each key unlocks that provider's models, and admins choose which of them members can use. See [Add an API key](/docs/user-guide/get-started/add-api-key).

Supported providers include OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, xAI, Groq, Mistral, DeepSeek, Fireworks, Cohere, Amazon Bedrock, OpenRouter, Ollama and any OpenAI-compatible endpoint.

## Model capabilities

Models differ in what they can do. In **Admin → Models**, each model lists its capabilities, such as:

* **Tool calling**: can use tools, agents, workflows and connectors.
* **Vision / Image input**: can read images you attach.
* **File upload**: can read documents such as PDFs directly.
* **Reasoning**: thinks step by step before answering. Reasoning appears in a collapsible section above the answer.
* **Web search**: has the provider's own web search.

If you attach a file a model can't read, or mention a tool with a model that can't call tools, pick a different model.

## Compare models

Not sure which model is best for a prompt? Send it to two or three models at once. See [Compare models](/docs/user-guide/chat/compare).

## Usage limits

Your organization may set monthly AI budgets. If you're close to your limit, you'll see a notice above the message box. When a hard limit is reached you can't send new messages until the next billing period. Contact your admin if you need more. See [Usage limits](/docs/admin-guide/usage/usage-limits).
