# Temporary chat

> Ask something without saving the conversation.

## Overview

A temporary chat is a scratch conversation that isn't saved to your history. Use it for quick, throwaway questions.

## Start a temporary chat

Press <kbd>⌘</kbd> <kbd>Shift</kbd> <kbd>E</kbd> (<kbd>Ctrl</kbd> <kbd>Shift</kbd> <kbd>E</kbd>) or click the temporary chat toggle in the header. The panel says **This chat won't be saved.**

* Click **Reset Chat** to clear it and start over.
* Open **Temporary Chat Instructions** to set a system prompt for the temporary chat only.

When you close the panel, the conversation is gone.

  Admins can turn temporary chats off in **Admin → Settings → Chat Features**.
